Background: Back to about over 40 years ago under the Pol Pot regime (1975-1979), entire school education system in Cambodia was abolished. 80% of intellectuals including teachers, doctors, monks, etc. were massacred.
Though 20 years of civil war followed afterwards, education resumed during the period. However, the number of surviving teachers is not enough. Ones who can read were selected to become teachers. Some teachers had been trained only for a few months. Such low quality teachers is one of the primary factors for low quality education in Cambodia.
